The Write-A-Thon is ON

Welcome to Chronicles’s First Annual

Whether you are working on the first draft of your novel, writing short stories, publishing a cookbook, or creating posts for your blog, EVERY WORD COUNTS in Chronicles’s First Annual Write-A-Thon. My goal is to create a community where authors can share their experiences and offer each other support. Whether you try for the Big Kahuna Award—the Kindle Paperwhite that will go to the writer with the most words at the end of the month—or whether you are simply looking for camaraderie and inspiration to motivate you to work more productively, how much you make of this Write-A-Thon is entirely up to you.

Which leads me to a discussion about word counts and raffles. As a participant, in addition to writing your heart out, your primary responsibility is to keep track of your word counts, both your daily as well as your combined. Some of the drawings will be random, where all you have to do is enter your name, while other raffles will be based on word counts for a specified period of time. As I have many surprises planned for the Write-A-Thon, most giveaways will only last one day. On non-raffle days, I will provide short videos and polls to encourage discussion on the craft of writing.

  • Be Honest—You are on your honor to report accurate word counts.
  • Keep It Clean—Don’t spoil our fun with sarcasm and profanity.
  • Have Fun—If I need to explain this one, you’ve come to the wrong place.
  • Invite your friends—The more the participants, the better the prizes.

Sunday, February 3—Pick the winner of the Super Bowl and your name will be entered in a drawing to win a $25.00 Amazon Gift Card

Monday, February 4—The person with the most words to date wins: A paperback copy of On Writing: A Memoir of the Craft by Stephen King.

Time for a little . . .

  1. I love this, it will make me sit on my butt and write, I never am able to find the time to do so, and with this, well, I kinda told my family it was almost an obligation, so for one month, they’re leaving me to my writings!!!!! Thanks Ashley!!!!

    • Hi Valerie. Great question. I’ll post more on this tomorrow. In a nutshell, this is an informal write-a-thon, so you will be responsible for keeping up with your own progress. But you’ll want to keep track of your daily and total word counts to take advantage of some of the raffles. 😉 Hope this answers your question.

  2. This sounds wonderful! I definitely want to be involved. I think it’ll be interesting to see how much I really do write in a day, even when it’s not on my WIP. I’m sure a large chunk of my word count will be blogs and articles.
