Weigh-In

Weighing In

For the past few months, I have been dealing with one crisis after another in my life. This past weekend, however, I was finally able to put everything aside and lose myself completely in my WIP. I don’t need to tell you what it feels like to be so engrossed in your novel that you’re completely unaware of what’s going on around you. To me, this total immersion is the biggest thrill of being a writer. I took my dog for a long winter’s walk on Sunday morning. The thirty-degree weather was exhilarating. I was listening to my iPod and planning an upcoming scene, a very intense scene, when I damned near got run over by a car. Granted the car came flying around the corner, more his fault than mine, but I should have been paying attention. Note to fellow write-a-thoners: be careful when you’re walking around with your head in the clouds of your works in progress.

But the thing is, during those months when there were too many distractions in my life to actually sit down and write, I was still planning and making notes and developing my outline. According to Anne Lamott standards, my first draft is no doubt a shitty one, but I’m getting it written.

Weigh-In

My current word count is 17,549, which is only halfway to my goal. I hope you guys are doing better than me. Today is our last check point before we begin the final week of the Write-A-Thon. 1. At 9.30AM this Wednesday, not having yet sat down to write today, my full word-count for the write-a-thon is: 21.708. I thought I should have written more, but I’ve been having some crisis at home and this doesn’t help focus in what characters tell me about themselves and their stories.

  2. 15,189 which is way below where I supposed to be thus I am preparing for a nonstop writing weekend beginning with #writeclub Friday and locking myself in the guest room on Saturday/Sunday:)

  3. I’m only on 19 911, thanks to a few days of sightseeing rather than writing but I have quite a few blocks of writing time in the next few days, so that should go up pretty fast soon.
